Hand Tools Safety
We use hand tools to build all sorts of things—houses, furniture, decorations, and a whole lot more. It can be a lot of fun to get creative and build things you can be proud of, but tools can be very dangerous if not handled properly.
Keep these tips in mind to be safe while using hand tools:
- Always ask permission first. An adult should supervise you while you use a hand tool.
- Pay close attention to what you are doing and keep a firm grip on the tool at all times.
- Always wear eye protection and roll up long sleeves, tuck in your shirttail, and tie long hair back to keep it out of the way.
- Keep your work area clean to avoid slips and accidents.
Tools can be used to build something brand new or repair something that’s broken down, and knowing your way around a toolbox or workbench is a great skill to learn while you’re young. But remember, take care of yourself and your tools, and let’s stay safe together!
